Dr Matt Kearney OBE

Matt is driven by the conviction that the NHS could rapidly achieve a step change in prevention of heart attacks and strokes – through smart use of data and new ways of working that enable clinicians to optimise treatment of high risk conditions in real world primary care and transform outcomes for patients. Matt has been recognised for his work in preventing CVD with an OBE.

Dr Matt Kearney has many years' experience as a national leader and was awarded the OBE for services to health and CVD prevention in the King's New Years Honours List 2025.

As well as CVDACTION, Matt has led several innovations to transform the prevention of heart attacks and strokes. He is the founder of CVDprevent (the national primary care audit), Size of the Prize, and the award winning Proactive Care Frameworks.

 

​From 2016-2019, Matt was National Clinical Director for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention in England and led development of the CVD prevention element of the 2019 NHS Long Term Plan. 

 

Matt is now CEO of Into-Action.Health, the home of CVDACTION. He is also a practising GP and Senior Advisor to UCLPartners, the health innovation partnership.

Previously, Matt worked as advisor to the Department of Health respiratory programme, and was a member of the NICE Public Health Interventions Advisory Committee from 2005 to 2013. He has a Master’s degree in Public Health and is a Fellow of the Royal College of GPs and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
